Margaret Engel is a founding partner of Compensation Advisory Partners LLC (CAP) specializing in executive compensation. Margaret works with compensation committees and management teams to design executive compensation strategies, annual incentive plans and long-term incentive plans. She has extensive experience working with companies facing performance challenges, and can assist in developing appropriate incentives for improvements in business performance.

Margaret has over 25 years of executive compensation consulting experience. She has designed and validated executive compensation strategies for companies in a wide range of industries, with a focus on retail, apparel and consumer brands. She also provides compensation assistance for a variety of corporate transactions, including initial public offerings, mergers, and spin-offs. Margaret earned a BA in American Studies from Yale University.

Experience

Margaret has over 25 years of executive compensation consulting experience. She has designed and validated executive compensation strategies for companies in a wide range of industries, with a focus on retail, apparel and consumer brands. She also provides compensation assistance for corporate transactions, including initial public offerings, mergers, and spin-offs. Her approach includes consideration of the board of directors’ and management’s philosophies on pay level positioning and mix of pay and investor requirements for performance.

Prior to joining CAP, Margaret was a principal in Mercer’s Human Capital practice for eleven years. While at Mercer, she chaired the Executive Compensation Methodology Committee. Prior to joining Mercer, Margaret was a member of KPMG’s Performance & Compensation consulting practice.

Awards

Margaret’s long-term incentive plan design for a Fortune 100 company won a GEO award for “Most Innovative and Creative Plan Design” in 2013.

Publications and Speeches

Margaret has written on executive compensation topics in publications that include WorldatWork Workspan, The Corporate Board, Directors and Boards and the Journal of Compensation and Benefits. Margaret contributed chapters to “Paying for Performance” and “A Practical Guide to Compensation Committee Service: Lessons from the Field.” She has spoken on compensation practices and been quoted in the business press, recently by CNBC, Bloomberg News, Agenda and BNA.

Margaret is a regular speaker at the NYSE/Corporate Board’s Compensation Committee Boot Camp. She has also participated in the Leading Minds in Compensation and Governance sponsored by NACD, as well as WorldatWork’s Executive Compensation Forum.

Education

Margaret earned a BA in American Studies from Yale University.
